Let’s Make a Production Out of This!

Cinco de Miler – A five mile race to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth of May, is a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s May 5, 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. The day, which falls on Thursday, May 5 in 2022, is also known as Battle of Puebla Day.

What’s better than a gorgeous morning along the lakefront of Chicago? A gorgeous morning with a Mariachi band and 5 miles to cover. But before we get to the gorgeous morning, let’s talk about the couple of days before. Or even months before. The planning of an event starts months before the gun goes off. From city permits, staffing, ordering medals and shirts to double checking all of the equipment.

This year mother nature gifted the athletes with a beautiful morning, but was not quite as kind to the staff setting up the event the two days before. Under the rain and in the wind, our production team battled the elements to set the stage for the Cinco de Miler. The tents, barricades, post race party grounds, finish and start line. Everything needed to get the party started.

On Saturday morning, with final race route modifications made due to high water levels from the rain, the EnMotive team was ready to welcome the runners and walkers.

The Mariachi band kicked off the celebration with the National Anthem from Mexico, followed by the National Anthem of the USA, followed by our announcer sending each corral on their way. Then it was off to the finish line to welcome all the runners back and congratulate them on a job well done.
